Stephen is an attorney in Portland, Oregon. He is a founding partner of Immigrant Law Group PC, founder and director of the Innovation Law Lab, and an adjunct professor at Lewis & Clark Law School.
His many recognitions include the 2015 American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) Founders Award for his impact on immigration policy, 2010 Jack Wasserman Memorial Award for Excellence in Immigration Litigation, 2009 Edith Lowenstein Memorial Award for Excellence in Advancing the Practice of Immigration Law, 2008 Gerald R Robinson Award for Excellence in Immigration Litigation, and Bill & Ann Shepard Law Scholarship. A former Commissioner of the City of Portland’s Human Rights Commission, he has authored amicus briefs, practice advisories, and Ending Artesia: The Artesia Report (January 2015), and presented at TEDxMtHood Conference on legal strategies to protect refugees.
In the past, he chaired the AILA Amicus Committee and the Oregon AILA chapter. He was also on the AILA Board of Governors, and Immigration Counseling Service board, and was a member of the Northwest Speak Out Project.
Stephen is an accomplished climber, open water swimmer, ski mountaineer, and mystery novelist.
